The eradication is being done based on very limited studies and faulty logic. Looking at the palila bird population trends for the last 32 years nobody could tell that the eradication has had any effect at all. In fact, after killing over 40,000 animals, the palila bird population now stands right where it was when the first eradications began.
After such an immense slaughter and passage of so many years some kind of result would be expected. Looking at the graph one can see that there is not a clear understanding of what drives the palila population but it is very clear that there is not any correlation between the sheep population and that of the bird.
